SPARK Ambassador - Intern Position - STEM Outreach Program

iRobot delivers innovative robots that are making a difference in people’s lives. From cleaning floors to disarming explosives, we constantly strive to find better ways to tackle dull, dirty and dangerous missions—with better results.
SPARK (Starter Programs for the Advancement of Robotics Knowledge) is iRobot’s educational outreach program to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Math for students in kindergarten through college.

Location: Based in Bedford, MA; requires travel throughout MA

We seek an outgoing, energetic Intern to represent SPARK as part of a program called “20 in 20.” The position is for approximately 100 hours spread over the course of 5 months, primarily on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For this role we are looking for a personable, enthusiastic team player who is willing to travel to 20 selected schools throughout Massachusetts to give interactive robot presentations. The ideal candidate must be comfortable talking to large groups of students ranging from ages 5-18. iRobot will provide presentation material and training. After completing training, this individual must be able to make these robotics demonstrations fun and exciting to students. The candidate must have a “can-do” attitude and act as a positive role model while visiting schools.
This position offers a unique opportunity to inspire thousands of students throughout the state, exciting them about robotics and STEM education.

Requirements/Qualifications:
• Working towards a Masters and/or Bachelor’s degree
• Public speaking abilities in front of children
• Creative and able to think on their feet
• High energy with children
• Ability to work with a team
• Familiar with social networking including Twitter and Facebook
• Flexible schedule during school hours (7am-4pm)
• Valid driver’s license and vehicle
• Pass a CORI background check
• US Citizen or green card holder
• Some familiarity with robotics (either through school or as an outside interest) is preferred
• A major in education, robotics, engineering, mathematics, computer science, or other related field is a plus
