Volunteers Needed

Volunteers for West End Children's Festival

Saturday, August 21, noon - 4pm. West End complex (If you lived here, you'd be home right now.) Will do model bridges/human bridges with Iron Man, balloon towers, water testing, storybook reading and build your dream castle with Tinker Bell. Future City will have a table, also. We will be next to MWRA and Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. Free parking, tons of fun, and plenty to eat. Theme this year is "International Flavors" so the food should be better than ever. Volunteer with reed.brockman@aecom.com

Need TInker Bell and Iron Man -- have costumes!

Design Squad event in Fenway Park, Aug 27
Design Squad, PBS’ reality engineering show, will be taking part in the Boston Public Schools Middle O event at Fenway this year and we’re looking for volunteers to help do a Design Squad activity with kids. This will be a great chance to hang out at Fenway, meet some fellow engineers and engineering students and do fun hands-on activities! Here are the details:

WHEN
Friday, August 27th, 5 to 7:30 PM
Volunteer shift: 4:15 to 7:30 PM (any help with clean-up would also be greatly appreciated!)

WHAT
We will be doing the Design Squad Pop Fly activity with 6th graders who will be entering a BPS middle school this fall.

WHO
You! And any other engineers or engineering students you know who want to help get kids excited about engineering!

If you’d like to volunteer (or if you have questions) please email Margot Sigur, Outreach Production Coordinator at WGBH, at margot_sigur@wgbh.org. If you have friends or colleagues who you think would enjoy this, please forward this email along to them! We’ll provide you with snacks and a Design Squad T-shirt in exchange for your help on this event.

Welcome to the Center for STEM Education's K-12 Outreach Blog!

WHO WE ARE: The Center for STEM Education is a Northeastern center focused on increasing opportunities and awareness in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields for students, especially those from backgrounds currently underrepresented in these careers. We work closely with our community to accomplish this goal, and have many volunteer opportunities both on campus and in the schools and communities in which we work.
VOLUNTEERING: Whether you are passionate about enhancing math and science education for K-12 students, want to get more involved in your community, or just want to fulfill some required volunteer hours, you've come to the right place! Read about our upcoming volunteer opportunities in the blog below, and then click on the link for the event in the right-hand column to register. We offer both ongoing and one-day volunteer opportunities, and new events are being added all of the time. We encourage you to also use this blog to discuss your current service experiences with other students at NU!

We also encourage you to refer to the resources provided to gain a deeper understanding of your role as a volunteer and the community that you will be serving.
